Yoga in Practice: Train Your Mind for Empowerment, Part 1
By Paul Jerard
Recently, there have been some objections to using words like empowerment,
abundance, success, and achievement, within Yoga writings. However, it would be
much more difficult to open the doors of my wellness center, in North
Providence, if I were homeless. Imagine the number of children, teens, adults,
and seniors, who could not reap the benefits of Yoga, if every Yoga teacher took
a vow of poverty.
The fifth Yama: Aparigraha (Non-gathering) is clear to Yoga practitioners, but
it would be difficult to contribute to charities, research Yoga, write, teach
under-privileged people, or make a contribution to mankind, if you are starving
in the back alleys of New England, or anywhere else. If you have nothing to
give, you can give nothing; therefore, you must acquire and give to others to
help mankind.
You should not abandon the concept of empowerment to help yourself, in order
that you can help others - in turn. This is not about hoarding material, but
accumulating, and re-distributing, to those in need. You only have a temporary
hold on any material wealth in this life, so why not help people, while you have
it? This is a principle of Karma Yoga: Union by selfless service.
Where do you start with training, or re-training, your mind for empowerment and
success? It is within the basic programming of your mind that you must start.
You must learn to “eat, sleep, and drink” positive energy every day.
To eat correctly, a diet should, for the most part, consist of sattvic foods,
such as vegetables, fruits, and whole grains. There is much more to this dieting
aspect, but it is difficult to find these foods at a fast food restaurant.
However, it is worth the effort to research the sattvic diet and make small
changes to your current eating habits.
When you sleep, try to get to bed earlier and be in your best frame of mind. You
can do this by meditating or by practicing a stage-by-stage relaxation before
bedtime. There are also many good meditation, self-hypnosis, and relaxation CD’s
to choose from. Sometimes, dreams can be negative; but with the above-mentioned
methods, you can change the programming of your mind.
Drink plenty of pure water and gradually observe how your behavior changes. Many
people consume too much caffeine every day. Can you imagine if a negative person
walked up to you, in a positive mood, and said, “I’m sorry, for what I said
before - I had one coffee too many, today?” This sounds like a “lame excuse,”
but in reality, there are too many every day conflicts due to caffeine.
With these first three steps, you will gradually train your mind for
empowerment.

Health and Fitness Programs
By Eddie Tobey
Health is the state of mental and physical well being of an individual. The
science of medicine helps in maintaining health. However, it is also noticed
that it is possible to maintain good health due to individual effort.
Fitness is important to maintain a healthy body. It is a phenomenon that helps a
person look, feel and work to better. It also plays an important part in
conducting bodily activities efficiently. Working out the heart, lungs and
muscles of the body are all related to physical fitness. However, fitness
activities differ from person to person. There are many factors that affect the
fitness of a person. They range from age, sex, exercise and eating habits.
Before an individual starts on a fitness program, it is necessary for him to
evaluate a few things that affect his health and fitness. For a fitness program
to give the desired result, it needs to be administered with care.
Activities to be incorporated in the fitness programs have to be decided after
analyzing various components of fitness. Controlling weight is an important part
of physical fitness. Muscle tone development is another aspect that is taken
care of by fitness programs. A good fitness program suggests the best time for
exercising. Exercises are adjusted according to the work schedules of the
individuals.
Fitness programs also suggest diets for individuals. Eating habits are an
important factor affecting health and fitness programs. A major advantage of
following health and fitness programs is that these plans are suggested for
long-term health unlike the weight loss programs that are short-term based. It
provides improved health in terms of better performance of vital body organs. It
also provides a sense of well being due to more energy and better stamina.

Have A Better Life With Healthy Nutrition
By Michael Lastun
Nutrition means the total physiological process whereby the body / organisms
obtain the food necessary for the development and growth to secure the
energy to carry on.
Nutrition means: the vital process, reconstruction of the tissues(food,
supplies;). The words came from latin(nutritio), french(nutrition). The
nutrition is important for all inhabitants of the planet because without the
sustenance the body stops growing, gets weak and finally dies. A correct
nutrition means a healthy body and also an optimistic point of view on life
and not only. As the latin saying tells: ”mens sana in corpore sano”-a
healthy mind in a healthy body. If the body is not happy our mind is not
thinking very clear and tends to become more and more stressed and finally
it creates a twisted imagine on ourselves. The nutrition is our fuel which
activates the mechanism of our body. Nowadays it is important to have a
well-balanced way of life and get rid of the food which damages our body and
replace it with a healthy food.
The American Dietetic Association(ADA) is the nation's largest organization
of nutrition professionals. It has nearly 65,000 members. ADA promotes a
healthy nutrition and gives advises to those who want to change their way of
life. The members of ADA are food and nutrition experts and they transpose
the theories in practical solution.
In the last 30 years the nutrition has become a problem especially from the
moment the rough-wrought and junk-food appeared on the market. The incorrect
nutrition draws after it an unbalanced life. One of the century’s problem is
the obesity which embraces like a scourge the entire world. Because of the
sedentary life and the lack of moving the body deposes the surplus of
calories as fats. The fats affect all the internals and cause health
problems like: heart failure, blood circulation, rough breathing, and all
kind of pains.
All the experts recommend a nutrition based on fruits, vegetables, and an
active style of living.

Safety Awareness & Self Defense: Circle of Safety
By Eric Gehler
Safety Awareness & Self Defense is the responsibility of each individual.
Knowing your surroundings and being aware of potential dangers is your first
step towards self-defense. Avoiding and distancing yourself from circumstances
that could be trouble are your responsibility.
The Circle of Safety is an imaginary boundary extending from your body outward
to approximately 7 to 10 feet. By being aware what is approaching your Circle of
Safety you can potentially avoid a dangerous situation. If you were alone and a
stranger enters your circle of safety, you should attempt to distance yourself
from that stranger. In order for the stranger to grab you, they must be able to
touch you. If you maintain a circle of safety of the 7 to 10 feet than the
stranger will not be in reach to grab or touch you.
If possible avoid walking alone.
Always attempt to be in a group, or at least in public areas where there are
many other people.
Avoid walking at night where there are no streetlights.
Be aware of potential hiding places for dangerous strangers, behind bushes, in
alleys, behind large trash dumpsters.
As you approach these potential hazardous areas extend your circle of safety by
distancing yourself from these obstacles.
These few tips can mean the difference from being a victim or a safe pedestrian.
