PUBLISHER NOTE
Hello everyone,
We are now in November, I am writing this after attending a
great Sunday at King Richards Fair, with great friends. We got to check out some
great weapons and excellent costumes. People were in period dress and having a
great time. This is what made me curious why can people pretend to be so
friendly when they are at such a great place, Are they acting or is that how
they really feel? Can't more people let their guard down and just act civilized
instead of cussing and cursing and being ignorant? I hope one day that could be
a reality. Well October is winding down birthday month in New Hampshire is
expensive everything is due. I do enjoy all the busyness is slowing down and I
can enjoy some quiet time and catch up on some studies. The Pictures from camp
came out great. The temperature is great I love running at this time of year. I
am trying to finish up a course and hopefully walk away with a certification. We
need your donations, Your support is needed and welcomed. Become a member today and
donate.
Please donate
here.
Remember we are still looking for people to write articles and
submit information. Also look forward to next month as we start publishing a
fitness column.

EMPOWERMENT
C Stands for Different
by: Lynn Scheurell
By Webster’s Dictionary definition, a catalyst is something that provokes
significant action. That’s what I do – I provoke my clients to think and act
differently in their lives for greater fulfillment. After all, we have to do
different to get different.
It is my intention that you find something thought provoking enough to do
something different in your own life.
Connection
Connection happens on two levels. First is connection with the self in an
essential sense of center that unshakable by external events. The second is
connection with others for community.
Creativity
When creativity is open, it’s delicious to explore the unseen - what’s
around your next corner. By being curious, receptive and initiating
questions or actions, you can play with infinite possibilities.
Clarity
By reducing the “noise” in your head, your being, thinking and doing becomes
crystallized. Decisions are easier, right action is smoother, communications
and relationships are cleaner - and your calendar becomes focused.
Considerations
Life is full of considerations, some of which are necessary.
However, it is important to recognize which are real. It is important to not
tolerate the unnecessary – compromise only when it’s meaningful.
Courage
There are times when situations require us to confront things that make us
uncomfortable or even afraid. Until we pass through it, we do not learn our
lessons. Having the courage to face it gives us the ability to move forward.
Confidence
When you are comfortable in who you are, you naturally make choices that
support your knowingness and demonstrates trust in who/where you are. It’s a
powerful magnet to attracting more of what you want.
Contribution
It is in giving that we grow, by sharing what we have that we increase our
own capacities. Giving back where we can creates good karma.
Collaboration
Building by partnership/teamwork creates a synergy that otherwise wouldn’t
exist. When two or more are gathered in focus, great things are created and
achieved.
Celebration
Honoring what has happened in celebration feels good. It is a timeless
ritual to acknowledge hard work and mark a milestone or an ending. Without
celebration, we may not know that we are moving into a new beginning.
Circle Back
Review the lessons learned to see if you’ve missed anything, or if you can
use something previously discarded in a new way.
Circling back allows you to express appreciation for both the people who
have been touched by your learning journey and your progress.
Compassion
Through compassion for others, we acknowledge our oneness. While we are all
at different places on our respective journeys, the destination is the same.
Conviction
As long as you are in alignment with your higher self, believing in what you
know to be true for you is the backbone to good decisions, personal
leadership, accountability, and good health.
Communication
Speak your truth clearly, concisely and honestly. You can avoid about 80% of
problems with other people by having good communication skills. You can
resolve 100% of your personal challenges by being honest with yourself.
Control
Control means doing what you can and releasing whatever you just did – it
has to go do / be whatever you have given it life to do. Control is a
superficial illusion, attempting to force situations, people, or things to
fit – it’s like trying to push a river. Being in flow means recognizing that
there is no control.
Common Sense
Maybe this should be "un"-common sense...common sense comes from every day
living. If something makes sense to you, do it.
However, just because somebody else does it a certain way doesn’t mean that
it makes the best sense for you.
If any one of these resonated with you on some level, that’s an indicator of
where you can start in doing something different. If more than one hit a
nerve, start with the first one.
You will notice that people and situations around you will change - be
alert. Watch for synchronicities and pay attention to how you feel – that’s
the best measure of your success in being different.

FITNESS
Setting Fitness Goals
by: Jonathon Hardcastle
Many people make the mistake of setting their fitness goals too high when
they embark on an exercise program. This leads them to abandon their plans
out of frustration and impatience. Setting manageable goals is key to
maintaining a fitness program over time.
If you have been completely sedentary you need to start out your fitness
regimen by working towards small and realistic goals. These can be as simple
as walking around the block once a day for a week, and adding another block
each subsequent week until they reach the 30 minutes recommended by health
professionals. A few sessions with a personal trainer can help you set
reasonable goals for weight-bearing exercise like weight training. In the
beginning focus on overall conditioning rather than building muscle. Check
with staff at your gym or fitness center for recommendations about what
exercise classes are right for your current fitness level.
When you're just starting out, it's easy to make rash promises like
exercising every day. It's hard for even people in top condition to make
time each and every day for training. Start off three or four days a week
and build up from there. If you're taking up a new sport like swimming,
skiing or golf, consider taking lessons with a professional so that you
develop good habits from the beginning.
If you've been getting moderate exercise your goals can be a little more
ambitious. If you're walking the recommended 30 minutes per day, why not add
hand weights to your routine? This might also be the time to consider adding
more weight to your lifting or taking an intermediate fitness course. You
may also be ready to speak to a personal trainer about beginning to work on
building specific muscle groups.
Once you've attained a high level of fitness, then it's time for some
serious goal setting. Plan to run a marathon or participate in a 5K walking
event. There are many of these events run to benefit charity, giving a
double benefit of both funds raised and health benefits to participants.
When preparing for an event of this nature, return to your early habit of
setting small, realistic goals. Add miles to your run on a weekly basis
until you are able to complete the full distance. Speak with your trainer to
establish a regular schedule of weight-bearing exercise that will help
improve your stamina and flexibility.

NUTRITION
Goji: Nature's Wonder
by: David McFarlane
What Is Goji?
There is a lot of talk about goji berries in the market today, which
makes one wonder about what this so-called miracle fruit really is. The
goji berries come from a vine-like plant that can sometimes reach 15-20
feet in height. This is commonly found in the Ningxia Province in China.
Many people describe the goji berry plant as a mix between a grape vine,
and a tomato creeper.
Legend has it that in about 800 AD, during China’s Tang Dynasty, some
unidentified berries were found growing on a vine near a well next to a
Tibetan Buddhist temple in the Himalayas. As time passed, these goji
berries dropped off the vine and into the well. The monks who drank the
water were exceptionally long-lived and healthy.
Goji (Lycium Barbarum) is basically an Asian (from Tibet and Mongolia)
plant with the purple-blue colored flowers and attractive red mildly
sweet fruits that grows about 8 feet to 10 feet tall in the Himalayan
region. A goji plant starts from a tiny goji seed, which is black in
color and smaller than the seeds of tomatoes. The goji seed has earned
an outstanding demand all over the world due to the fact that the high
degree of nutritional value of goji plants or fruits have some extremely
favorable effects on one’s health.
A goji drink is made from the red berries of the goji plant found in the
Himalayan countries of Asia and it is a natural, beneficial drink that
provides the body with many healthy ingredients.
Benefits Of Goji
Only recently has the Western world discovered another gift from the
Himalayan Region. This gift is the goji plant. To fully understand and
appreciate the goji plant it is important to know the basic facts
regarding this plant and the possible health benefits associated with
the plant.
There are many benefits that the goji berry gifts the human race with,
the best of which is that it claims to reverse the aging process to a
great extent. There are only two pre-requisites for this purpose – (i)
it should be taken daily, and (ii) it should be taken in the raw form.
Goji berries are like a boon from God for human beings. When these
berries are consumed regularly, they are found to increase longevity and
promote excellent health. It reduces the craving for sugar for the
diabetics thereby improving their control-capacity and stabilizing the
sugar levels in hypoglycemic people.
More goji juice health benefits include relieving menstrual discomfort
and even enhance immune function since it builds strong blood paramount
to fighting off disease and infection. It also is kind to your
appearance as it makes you feel younger and can also make you look
younger. The goji juice health benefits even include antioxidant
protection that makes great health sense.
Some other interesting information on goji juice is that there are four
polysaccharides unique to goji juice, which is any of a class of
carbohydrates, such as starch and cellulose, consisting of a number of
monosaccharides joined by glycosidic bonds. These can be very good to
you so if your goji juice contains these you have even more of a benefit
in drinking it.
Over 60 health studies have been conducted thus far on the benefits of
the goji fruit. The results of these studies show positive and strong
results indicating various health benefits to those whose daily diet
consists of ingesting the goji fruit.
What the researchers are finding, in controlled clinical studies, is
astonishing. If the healing power and life extending properties of goji
juice hold up to scientific scrutiny and can be replicated and
validated, diseases such as cancer, tuberculosis, immune deficiencies,
heart disease, hypertension, high cholesterol, depression, anxiety,
insomnia and more will take a dramatic turn for the better.
Where Can I Find Out More About Goji?
Currently, the best place to learn about goji and try it for yourself is
through websites. Just enter the word in your search engine, and you’ll
be taken to dozens of sites that offer books, newsletters, and all forms
of goji products. Some retailers even offer money-back guarantees if you
don’t achieve beneficial results.
It never hurts to keep in mind all of the nutrients in goji juice.
Sometimes a particular medication or a particular medical condition can
lead to an increased need for certain nutrients. If those same nutrients
are found in goji berries, then a drink of goji juice could help this
person significantly.

PERSONAL SAFETY
Personal Safety And You
by: Ralph Winn
Personal safety is of the utmost importance these days. But all the police
and firemen and EMS workers in the world can’t be there to protect you 24/7.
So taking charge of your own personal safety is the first step to keeping
yourself out of danger. The Home Security store offers a number of devices
that help increase your personal safety, but simple common sense behavior is
the best place to start.
Personal Safety on the Street
•Sling your purse across your body and hold it to your chest so it cannot be
snatched.
•If you can’t do that, be prepared to let go of your purse immediately if
someone grabs it, lest you be pulled to the ground and hurt.
•If someone tries to attack you, shout in a very loud voice “No!” and then
give an order to people nearby so they do not misinterpret your situation.
Make it clear you are in danger by shouting “Call 911!”
•Follow your intuition. If someone is making you nervous, do whatever you
can to avoid them.
•If someone is following you, go to the nearest store or other populated
place.
•If someone is following you, do not go home, or you’ll let the criminal
know where you live.
•Don’t label your keys with your name or address.
•Do not talk loudly about social or vacation plans because someone could
overhear you and know when you’ll be away from home.
•Always be alert and aware of your surroundings.
•Carry a personal safety alarm.
•Carry mace or pepper spray to defend yourself against attackers.
Personal Safety at Home
•Keep lights on all doorways.
•Use a home safety alarm system to secure your home against intruders.
•Install motion sensor lights outside your home.
•Keep all doors and windows locked even when you are at home.
•Approach your home with your keys out and ready so you get inside quickly.
•Keys can be used for your defense as well.
•Make sure no one follows you into the garage.
•Close the garage door immediately after pulling inside.
•Keep the door from your garage to your home locked at all times. It is just
like any other entryway.
•Never answer the door to an unexpected visitor. Call to them through the
doorway to ask for identification.
•Get identification from all cable men or plumbers who may come to your
door. If they have none, call the company to confirm their identity.
•Never let a stranger in to make a phone call. Offer to make the call for
them.
•Never hide a key under a doormat. Criminals know all the hiding places.
Personal Safety in the Car
•Always be aware of everyone around you in the parking lot.
•Approach your door with your keys out and ready.
•Check the backseat and under the car before getting inside.
•Do not park next to a van, if possible. You can be easily dragged into the
side of a van and kidnapped.
•Start your car as soon as you get inside.
•Keep your windows rolled up and doors locked.
•If you are stopped at a stoplight or sign and feel there is a real threat
from someone approaching your car, run the light. It is better to get a
ticket than to be the victim of a crime.
•Park in well-lit areas.
•If someone tries to get you to pull over, for any reason, do not do so
until you are at a populated, well-lit gas station or police station.
•Do not pick up hitchhikers.
Personal Safety and Dogs
•Your first instinct will be to run away. Don’t. The dog’s chase instinct
will kick in, and you know how dogs love to chase things.
•Remain calm and still.
•Let the dog sniff you.
•Do not look directly in the dogs eyes as that is a form of doggie
aggression.
•In a calm but firm voice say “No! Go away!”
•If the dog lunges at you, block yourself with your purse, briefcase, or
coat in order to distract the dog to give you a chance to break free and
escape.
•Back away slowly.
Personal safety is about being alert and having a plan. If you know what to
do and what not to do, you will be able to handle emergencies that threaten
your personal safety. If nothing else, just follow your instincts when it
comes to personal safety. If your gut is telling you something is wrong, you
personal safety could be in danger. Listen to your gut. Be smart and be
safe.

WARRIOR SHIP
In the Ninja Warrior's
Martial Art of Ninjutsu - Practice Makes Perfect
by: Jeffrey M. Miller
In the ninja's martial arts, just as with everything else in life, experience
brings many benefits. The more a person does something, the greater the level of
confidence, understanding, and proficiency they will have with that 'thing.'
This is a truth but as with any medicine, is often hard to swallow.
If we are to become truly skilled at our martial art - able to use our skills
in an actual confrontation should one ever arise - we must be able to do our
techniques as easily as we tie our shoes or lift a fork to our mouths to eat.
And, unfortunately, two classes a week will NOT bring about this mastery and
skill.
True mastery comes from practice - the homework done when we're away from
class to perfect our skill. Just as with any other schooling, homework is
necessary to really get good at what it is that we're trying to learn. This is
something we cannot get in the classroom where the learning takes place.
Practice is the constant experience derived from having done the techniques
repeatedly. It is the magnifying glass which spots the errors that must be fixed
for the technique to work quickly, efficiently and correctly.
The basics - the bare essentials - that every technique or kata form is based
on must be drilled over and over until we can do them without thinking. The
basic skills - the Kamae, strikes, rolling and breakfalling skills, and the
basic footwork patterns - must be practiced over and over and over and over and
. . .
Remember that, your body tells on you. The instructors can see who practices
at home and who does not. We can tell by the questions asked (or not asked) and
by the corrections that have to be made.
We know, because we have been where our students are now. We have had...
The same time constraints
The same familial obligations
The same concerns with job, travel, and money
The same practice area limitations; and...
The same excuses...
.. given in the hopes that our teachers will somehow see our plight as more
forgiving than others and 'lighten-up' on us so we won't have to work so hard.
Your teachers know that what they're giving you in class is only the tip of
the iceberg. They know that you cannot possibly learn all there is to know in
just a few short classes a week. They know how hard mastery is and, most
important of all, they know what you will be up against if you should ever need
your training to save yourself or someone you care about.
We do live in a relatively peaceful society, and chances are most of us will
never need to use our skills in defense of ourselves or others. But, who knows
if he or she will ever be the target of a brutal attacker? And, most
importantly...
..who wants to have a black belt and not be able to survive if an attack does
happen, and...
.."Tag - you're it!"
